Last week, Mr Wu Fei, Chairman of JinenU Solar, attended the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum 2024 (ISF), engaging in discussions on the new chapter of energy transition with Indonesian government officials and numerous international luminaries.

The event, which was attended by more than 250 international speakers, 100 international entrepreneurs, and more than 11,000 participants from 53 countries, proved the high global enthusiasm for collaborating towards a greener and more sustainable future. In accordance with what was conveyed by President Joko Widodo and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Panjaitan, there is no instant solution to overcome climate change and requires humane collaboration between developed and developing countries. Moreover, each country has different conditions for decarbonization.

At the opening ceremony, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment H.E Luhut Binsar Panjaitan delivered important speeches consecutively, while Pope Francis, Bishop of Rome and Sovereign of the Vatican City State, provided an inspiring keynote address.

Mr Wu Fei was invited to attend the summit, where he shared his unique insights and engaged in depth with numerous participants on the inevitable path for the power industry towards a zero-emission era, directly addressing the various challenges and opportunities in the process of transformation.

At the forum, Mr. Wu pointed out that since the PV industry entered the market-oriented stage in 2020, the global PV market has experienced explosive growth. With technological advancements and cost reductions, photovoltaic power generation has become a competitive clean energy option. Especially after China proposed its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the PV industry has ushered in unprecedented development opportunities. Clear targets and incentive measures set by the government can effectively guide market investments in renewable energy, thereby accelerating the green transformation of the energy structure. Meanwhile, the government should also strengthen infrastructure construction to provide robust support for the widespread application of renewable energy.

Regarding the hot topic of cross-border electricity trading, Mr. Wu believed that due to Indonesia's vast land area and the further development of the energy revolution where solar power replaces thermal power, cross-border electricity trading will present significant development opportunities for Indonesia in the next 20-50 years. However, Indonesia also faces multiple challenges such as infrastructure construction, cost fluctuations, and currency exchange rates. Suntech is actively exploring solutions to address these challenges and seize the broad opportunities presented by cross-border electricity trading.
